One of six conversational sessions with inspiring social entrepreneurs leading through challenging times.

Social enterprises continue to make a measurable contribution to the economy . At SIS, we support these businesses and organisations and help them to continue to deliver their activity and thrive through our business support and investment.

A key priority is to ensure the sustainability of these impactful businesses especially through challenging times like the current cost of living crisis when the services and support they provide become stretched due to demand. The impact of rising costs, the wellbeing of staff and how this crisis will impact on their own organisation will ultimately sit on the shoulders of the leader as they strive to achieve solutions and the best possible outcomes. There will of course be some difficult decisions to be made, dealing with the unknown and situations as they arise on a more regular basis. It can be lonely and stressful time.

Talking Heads - Leading Through Challenging times

This is the third of six sessions were we we'll be joined by an inspiring leader and social entrepreneur who is leading their business through the cost of living crisis and the impacts this is having to their organisation, their team and the impactful services they provide. They will share their experiences and provide insights into their strategic journey, their operational challenges and in some instances the opportunities this might present.

Leading through challenging times - there will always be the inevitable endless to do list for the day to day operations of the business and the team. This sits alongside their strategic role looking forward and planning for the future sustainability of their organisation this role becomes key during a time of crisis.

In this session we will discuss commissioned services: mission driven businesses play a key role in sectors such as health, social and child care. Commissioned work and the impact the current economic challenges can bring to a leader who has worked hard to establish long term valuable contracts to the organisation. How do you continue to work alongside partners to deliver your much needed services such as childcare through a time of crisis and the impact this has on your already stretched resources, overheads and staff. What are the implications for your service users and your business at a time when the need is greater than ever? How do you plan for and overcome these challenges to ensure both parties continue to work together.

Lesley Compston

We are delighted to be joined by Lesley Compston, Founder of Klas Care CIC.

As a parent, Lesley has personally experienced the struggles that young families in Renfrewshire face due to the lack of accessible childcare. A registered childminder with a degree in Childhood Practice, Lesley set up KLAS Care, which aims to reduce the amount of families living in poverty in the Renfrewshire area through the provision of affordable and flexible childcare enabling parents to access education, training or employment. KLAS Care delivers additional social benefits by reinvesting profits in subsidising fees for low-income families, allowing inclusive access to the service; they also provide accredited training to volunteers.

Initially launched in 2010, as a partnership business between Lesley and Kirsty based in their home town of Linwood. KLAS Care became a social enterprise in 2014 and was on Round 4 of our LaunchMe programme. Lesley received the social investment, and match funding, she required to open her new premises to expand the business.
