Based in Easterhouse, Glasgow, FARE Scotland have transformed the former Stepford Sports Park into FAREPlay Stepford, a state of-the-art community sports and leisure centre.
The facility aims to serve as a social and recreational hub for the local community, promoting active lifestyles and providing valuable opportunities for personal and professional development.
In 2023, FARE Scotland secured a £1.6 million blended funding package from SIS to finance the extensive upgrades at FAREPlay Stepford. This funding was essential in converting two smaller grass pitches into one full-sized 4G football pitch and adding five five-a-side pitches with new floodlights and fencing.
The upgraded facilities offer greater utility and accessibility, even in challenging weather conditions. The aim is to increase local participation in sports and physical activities, fostering overall wellbeing.
The centre supports various community groups and teams, such as local community football clubs, and hosts FARE’s employability programmes. These programmes aim to help young people, especially those aged 16 to 24, gain employment in the sports, leisure, and hospitality sectors.
"The support from SIS has enabled us to create a state-of-the-art football facility that will benefit both youth and adult teams, as well as supporting FARE Scotland’s programmes which are available to the local and wider communities."
